How to Set Up Auto Missed Call Text Back in GoHighLevel

By Marnix Geerkens. Published 2021-09-10. Updated 2026-06-02.

GoHighLevel can automatically send a text message to anyone who calls and does not get an answer. You enable this in the sub-account settings under the Company tab. Once on, every missed call to any number in that account triggers an instant SMS, giving you a real shot at keeping the lead before they call someone else.

Summary. The Missed Call Text Back setting in GoHighLevel fires an automatic SMS the moment an incoming call goes unanswered. It takes about a minute to enable: navigate to Settings, open the Company tab, scroll to the Missed Call Text Back section, check the box, and write your message. The default message is already a reasonable starting point, but you can customize it to match your business voice.

What you will learn

  • Enable the Missed Call Text Back setting inside a GoHighLevel sub-account
  • Write or customize the auto-reply text message
  • Test the message by entering your own phone number
  • Understand which calls the setting covers within the account

Steps

  1. Open sub-account Settings

Inside the GoHighLevel sub-account, scroll to the bottom of the left sidebar and click Settings.

  2. Navigate to the Company tab

In Settings, click the Company tab at the top. This is where account-wide defaults live.

  3. Find the Missed Call Text Back section

Scroll down until you see the Missed Call Text Back section. Check the box labeled Enable Missed Call Text Back.

  4. Write your message

A text editor appears with a default message already populated. Edit it to say whatever fits your business. Keep it short, friendly, and actionable. A simple question like 'How can we help?' works well.

  5. Test and save

Enter your cell number in the test field and send a test message to confirm it looks right. When you are happy with it, click Save. The setting is now live for all incoming calls that go unanswered in this account.

Tips

  • Send the test message to yourself before relying on it for real leads.
  • Keep the message under 160 characters to avoid it splitting into two SMS segments.
  • Pair this with a workflow that follows up again after a few hours if the contact still has not replied.

Frequently asked questions

Does the text go out for every unanswered call?

Yes. Any call to any number in the sub-account that goes unanswered triggers the message.

Can I change the message later?

Yes. Go back to the same Company tab in Settings and update the text anytime.

Does this replace a full automation workflow?

No. It is a quick default reply. A workflow gives you branching logic and multi-step follow-up.

Will contacts who call multiple times get multiple texts?

The text fires on each missed call event, so repeat callers may receive it more than once.
