Set Up Desktop SIP/VoIP Phones with GoHighLevel
By Marnix Geerkens. Published 2025-07-07. Updated 2026-06-02.
GoHighLevel supports SIP desk phones, which means any physical VoIP phone can make and receive calls through your GoHighLevel number. Calls are recorded, missed-call text-backs still fire, and the setup takes only a few minutes once you have the SIP server address, username, and password from GoHighLevel.

Summary. This tutorial explains how to connect a physical SIP desk phone to a GoHighLevel phone number so inbound and outbound calls run through the platform. The process covers creating a SIP user inside GoHighLevel's phone number settings, then entering the SIP server, username, and password into the desk phone's configuration interface. Any SIP-compatible VoIP phone works, including inexpensive models available from retail suppliers.

- How to create a SIP user in the phone number's advanced settings

Steps
Set the user's call destination to Desktop SIP
Go to Settings, then My Staff. Find your user, click Edit, and scroll to Call and Voicemail Settings. Change Forward Calls to 'Desktop SIP' and set the same option for Default Ring All and IVR if applicable. Save.
Open the phone number's advanced settings
Go to Settings, then Phone Numbers. Find the number you want to use and click its three-dot menu. Select Edit Configuration, then choose Advanced Settings and click VoIP Desktop SIP, then Get Started.
Create a SIP user
In the SIP setup panel, leave the SIP domain endpoint at its default value. Enter a username (such as your first name) and a password, then assign it to your user account. Click Save.
Access your desk phone's settings
Connect the desk phone to your network. On the phone itself, press the Up key to display its IP address. Type that IP address into a browser on the same network to open the phone's admin interface. Log in with the admin credentials (often printed on the phone's label).
Enter the SIP credentials
Inside the phone's admin UI, navigate to Account Settings. Enter the SIP server address from GoHighLevel, the username you created, and the password. Save the settings on the phone.
Test an inbound call
Have someone call your GoHighLevel number. The desk phone should ring. Answer it and confirm the call connects. Check the GoHighLevel Conversations tab to see the call record appear.
Tips
- SIP phones labelled 'PoE' (Power over Ethernet) draw power from the network cable, so you do not need a separate power adapter.
- Basic SIP phones are available from major retailers at very low cost. Any model that advertises SIP compatibility should work with GoHighLevel.

Frequently asked questions
Do missed-call text-backs still work when using a desk phone?
Yes. GoHighLevel processes the call status and fires workflow triggers regardless of which device you use to answer or miss the call.
Can I use any SIP phone brand?
Any SIP-compatible phone should work. The key credentials are the SIP server address, username, and password.
Is there an extra monthly cost for SIP desk phone support?
SIP is part of GoHighLevel's phone system. Standard call rates apply per minute, same as calls made from the web or mobile app.
Can multiple users each have their own desk phone?
Yes. Create a separate SIP user for each person in the same advanced settings panel and assign each to a different user account.
