Summary. GoHighLevel's email builder works on a section-and-element model. Each section holds one or more column layouts, and you fill columns by dragging in elements from the panel. The builder handles formatting, spacing, responsive sizing, and an auto-generated footer with dynamic account information. This tutorial covers creating an email from scratch or from a template, configuring section layouts and backgrounds, adding and adjusting elements, setting up from-name and subject in the settings tab, and previewing and sending a test before going live.

What you will learn

  • How to start an email from a template or from a blank canvas
  • How to configure layout sections with different column counts and backgrounds
  • How to add and style images, text, buttons, dividers, and social links
  • How to use the auto-populated footer element for dynamic account info
  • How to preview on desktop, tablet, and mobile before sending
  • How to send a test email and schedule or broadcast to a recipient list

Steps

  1. Create a new email

Go to Marketing, select Emails, and click Create Email in the top right. Choose a template to start from a pre-built layout, or choose Blank to build from scratch.

  2. Configure email settings

Click the Settings tab in the middle of the screen. Set your from name, from address, subject line, and optional preview text. Preview text is the short line some email clients show after the subject. Give the email a recognizable internal name before switching back to the editor.

  3. Add a layout section

On the Edit tab, drag a layout block onto the canvas. Choose full-width or set a column split (two columns, three columns, or a ratio split). Adjust padding to control spacing above, below, and to the sides of the section.

  4. Set a section background

In the section settings, choose between a solid color background, a pattern, or a contained versus full-width background style. Click Done when the section looks right.

  5. Drag elements into the section

Drag an image element into a column, click Replace to upload an image, and set its alt text, link, width, alignment, and padding. Add a text block for headings or body copy and format it with the inline editor. Add a button and configure its label, link, color, and padding.

  6. Add a footer

Drag in the Footer element. It automatically pulls in dynamic account information like address and unsubscribe link. You can change the background color of the footer section to contrast with the rest of the email.

  7. Preview and send a test

Click Actions in the top right and choose Preview. Save first if prompted. Review the email on desktop, tablet, and mobile views. Then go to Actions, select Send Test, enter an email address, and send yourself a copy to verify it renders correctly in a real inbox.

  8. Set recipients and send or schedule

Click the Send or Schedule tab. Choose your recipient list on the left side, then set a send time or send immediately. Only send to contacts who have opted in.

Tips

  • The footer element uses dynamic values pulled from the sub account settings, so make sure your account address and company name are filled in or the footer will show blank fields.
  • Save often while building. The builder does not auto-save and a browser refresh will lose unsaved work.
