A Tag in GoHighLevel is a short text label you attach to a contact record to categorize or mark them, which you can then use to filter contacts, trigger workflows, and target campaigns.

Tags are the simplest way to segment your contacts. You create a tag with any name you want, like "hot-lead", "client-2025", "no-show", or "downloaded-guide", and attach it to a contact. One contact can have many tags.
Tags are visible on the contact record and searchable in the Smart List filter. You can bulk-add a tag to hundreds of contacts at once, or remove a tag from a segment. Workflows can add and remove tags automatically based on contact behavior.
Because tags are so flexible, they work as a lightweight tagging system for almost anything: tracking which campaign a contact came from, marking which stage of onboarding they have completed, or flagging contacts that need manual follow-up.
How it works
You add a tag to a contact from the contact record by typing the tag name in the tag field. You can also add tags in bulk from a Smart List view by selecting contacts and choosing "Add Tag". In a workflow, you use the "Add Tag" or "Remove Tag" action steps.
To use a tag in a workflow trigger or condition, select "Tag Added" or "Contact Tag" as the trigger or condition field. GoHighLevel then watches for contacts that receive that tag and fires the workflow or routes the contact accordingly.
