What Is a Opportunity in GoHighLevel?
By Marnix Geerkens. Published 2026-05-28. Updated 2026-05-28.
An Opportunity in GoHighLevel is a deal record tied to a contact that represents a potential sale, tracked through pipeline stages from first inquiry to won or lost.
In plain English
An Opportunity is what turns a contact into a potential sale. When a lead books a call or fills out an inquiry form, you create an opportunity for them. That opportunity has a name, a monetary value, a close date, and a status. It sits in a pipeline column that shows where the deal stands.
One contact can have multiple opportunities. A client who first hired you for a website and is now considering a monthly retainer would have two separate opportunities, one for each deal, so you can track them independently.
Opportunities power sales reporting. GoHighLevel shows you total pipeline value, average deal size, time in stage, and win rate. These numbers come from the opportunity records, so keeping them accurate matters.
How it works
You create an opportunity from a contact record or directly in a pipeline board. You select the pipeline it belongs to, the stage it starts in, and fill in the value and expected close date. From that point you drag the card through stages as the deal progresses.
Workflows can create, update, and move opportunities automatically. For example, when a contact books a discovery call, a workflow can create an opportunity and move it to the "Call Booked" stage without you touching it. When they pay, a workflow can mark it as won.
Frequently asked questions
What is an Opportunity in GoHighLevel?
An Opportunity is a deal record linked to a contact. It has a value, a stage, and a close date. You track it through a pipeline from initial contact to closed-won or closed-lost.
Can I have more than one opportunity per contact?
Yes. A single contact can have multiple opportunities across different pipelines. This is common for agencies that upsell services to existing clients.
Do opportunities affect billing or invoicing?
Not directly. Opportunities are tracking records. When a deal closes and you are ready to bill, you create an invoice separately through the GoHighLevel payments feature.
