How to Move from Squarespace to GoHighLevel
By Marnix Geerkens. Updated 2026-05-28.
In short
Squarespace is a website builder, not a CRM. GoHighLevel is a full business system, so this is a move up, not a like-for-like swap. Rebuild your pages in the GoHighLevel website and funnel builder, recreate your forms, export your contacts as a CSV and import them into a pipeline, set 301 redirects so you keep your search rankings, then point your domain. You gain a CRM, pipelines, SMS, and automations in one login. GoHighLevel starts at $97 per month. Start the 30-day free trial first so you can test everything before you cancel Squarespace.
Before you start
- A GoHighLevel account (start the 30-day free trial first so you can test before cancelling Squarespace)
- Admin access to your Squarespace account
- Your contacts or email subscribers exported as a CSV
- A list of every page URL, form, and any products you sell on Squarespace
- Note of your top-ranking pages and blog posts so you can plan redirects
Step-by-step migration
Step 1: Export your contacts and subscribers as a CSV
In Squarespace, go to your Contacts panel or your email campaign audience and export everyone as a CSV file. If you collected leads through Squarespace forms, export those form submissions too. Include first name, last name, email, and phone if you have it. Save the file to your computer.
Step 2: List every page, form, and product you have
Write down every page URL on your Squarespace site, including blog posts. For each page note the headline, the main text, the images, and any form on it. If you sell products, list each one with its price. Take screenshots so you have a visual reference when you rebuild. This list is also what you use to plan your redirects in a later step.
Step 3: Rebuild your pages in the GoHighLevel builder
In GoHighLevel, go to Sites and open the website builder for a normal site, or the funnel builder for a lead page. Create a page for each Squarespace page you listed. The builder is drag-and-drop, so you add sections, text, images, and buttons. You do not need to match the Squarespace design pixel for pixel. Make sure each page has the same headline, the same core text, and the same call to action so it still ranks for the same terms.
Step 4: Recreate your forms
In GoHighLevel, go to Sites and then Forms. Build a form for each Squarespace form you had. Add the same fields (name, email, phone, message). Then embed the form on the matching page. Every submission now creates a contact in your CRM automatically, which is something Squarespace forms did not do.
Step 5: Set up your pipeline and custom fields
In GoHighLevel, go to Opportunities and create a pipeline that matches how you follow up with leads (for example New Lead, Contacted, Booked, Won). Add any custom fields you need to store extra data from your forms, such as service requested or budget. Squarespace had no pipeline, so this is new. It is where your leads will live.
Step 6: Import your contacts into the pipeline
Go to Contacts in GoHighLevel and click Import. Upload the CSV you exported from Squarespace. Map the columns to the correct fields (email, first name, phone). You can add a tag during import so you know these came from Squarespace, and add them to your pipeline as new opportunities. GoHighLevel deduplicates by email, so re-importing later is safe.
Step 7: Set up 301 redirects so you keep your rankings
This step protects your SEO. For every old Squarespace URL, create a 301 redirect that points to the matching new GoHighLevel URL. A 301 tells Google the page moved for good and passes most of the ranking value to the new page. Do this for your blog posts too, since those often bring the most search traffic. Skipping redirects is the number one way people lose rankings during a move, so do not skip it.
Step 8: Point your domain to GoHighLevel
In GoHighLevel, go to Sites and then Domains. Add your custom domain and update the DNS records at your registrar (usually a CNAME or A record). If you bought your domain through Squarespace, you may need to move it to a registrar you control first, or update the records inside Squarespace domain settings. Once DNS points to GoHighLevel, your pages go live on your own domain.
Step 9: Add the follow-up automations Squarespace never had
In GoHighLevel, go to Automation and build a workflow. A simple first one: when a contact submits a form, send them a welcome email or SMS, then notify you, then create an opportunity in your pipeline. This is the real reason to move. Squarespace could take the lead, but it could not follow up, text them, or track the deal. GoHighLevel does all three.
Step 10: Run a full end-to-end test, then cancel Squarespace
Submit a test lead through each new form. Check that the contact appears in your pipeline, the welcome email or SMS arrives, and the page loads on your domain. Click your old Squarespace URLs and confirm each one redirects to the right new page. Only cancel Squarespace after every page, form, and redirect passes this test.
How to check the migration worked
- Submit a test form on each new GoHighLevel page and confirm the contact appears in the correct pipeline stage.
- Verify the welcome email or SMS arrives within 5 minutes of the test submission.
- Open each old Squarespace URL and confirm it 301 redirects to the matching new page.
- Check your contact import total in GoHighLevel matches the export total from Squarespace.
- Load your top blog posts on the new domain and confirm the headline and text still match the old page.
Troubleshooting
My domain is not showing the new GoHighLevel pages
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. Check the CNAME or A record at your registrar matches exactly what GoHighLevel shows in the Domain settings. If your domain is still registered inside Squarespace, update the records there or move the domain to a registrar you control. Clear your browser cache and try again.
My search rankings dropped after the move
This almost always means the 301 redirects are missing or wrong. Check that every old URL redirects to the matching new URL, not to your homepage. Redirecting everything to the homepage loses the ranking. Fix the redirects page by page, then resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console.
Contacts did not import correctly
Open the CSV in a spreadsheet and check the column headers match what GoHighLevel expects. Remove any blank rows or special characters in the email column. Re-import with the corrected file. GoHighLevel deduplicates by email, so a second import will not create duplicates.
My Squarespace store products do not map cleanly
GoHighLevel handles simple product sales and payments, but it is not a full online store like Squarespace Commerce. If you have a large catalog, variants, or shipping rules, keep your store on a dedicated ecommerce platform and use GoHighLevel for the CRM, funnels, and follow-up. Test one product checkout in GoHighLevel before you move everything.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose my SEO when I move from Squarespace to GoHighLevel?
Not if you set up 301 redirects. A 301 redirect points each old Squarespace URL to the matching new GoHighLevel URL and passes most of the ranking value across. Keep the same headline and core text on each rebuilt page. The people who lose rankings are the ones who skip redirects or point everything to the homepage.
Does GoHighLevel replace Squarespace ecommerce?
For simple product sales, yes. GoHighLevel can sell products, take payments through Stripe, and run order forms. For a large store with many products, variants, and shipping rules, it is not a full replacement for Squarespace Commerce. Many people keep a dedicated store and use GoHighLevel for the CRM, funnels, and follow-up around it.
How long does the migration take?
A small site with a few pages and one form takes about 6 hours. A larger site with a blog, several forms, and products can take 8 to 10 hours. The rebuild and the redirects are the parts that take the most time, so plan for a weekend.
What do I actually gain by switching?
You gain the things Squarespace never had: a CRM to hold your contacts, pipelines to track deals, SMS and email follow-up, and automations that fire when a lead comes in. It all lives in one login. Squarespace could build the page and take the lead, but it could not follow up or track the sale.
Do I need to cancel Squarespace before I start?
No. Start the GoHighLevel 30-day free trial and run both at the same time during the move. Only cancel Squarespace after you have rebuilt every page, tested every form, and confirmed every redirect works.
Can I keep my domain during the move?
Yes. You point the same custom domain to GoHighLevel by updating your DNS records. If your domain is registered inside Squarespace, you may need to update the records there or move the domain to a registrar you control. Plan the switch for a low-traffic time, since DNS can take up to 48 hours to propagate.
Is GoHighLevel more expensive than Squarespace?
GoHighLevel Starter is $97 per month, which is more than a basic Squarespace plan. The difference is what you get. GoHighLevel includes a CRM, email and SMS marketing, calendars, and automations that you would buy as separate tools on top of Squarespace. The Unlimited plan is $297 per month if you run more than one business.
