Conversation AI and Voice AI handle simple back-and-forth conversations. Agent Studio goes further. It lets you build agents that can reason through a task, call external tools, look up information, and take a sequence of actions to complete something, like qualifying a lead, booking them, and sending a follow-up, all in one automated session.
You build an agent by defining its goal, giving it a knowledge base to pull answers from, connecting it to tools (like the GoHighLevel calendar or an external API), and setting the conditions under which it should escalate to a human. The agent then handles conversations based on those instructions.
Agent Studio uses GoHighLevel's MCP Node and AI workflow infrastructure to connect to external data sources and tools. This means an agent can look up information in your CRM, trigger a workflow, and update a contact record as part of the same conversation.
How Agent Studio works
You open Agent Studio in the GoHighLevel sub-account and create a new agent. You write a system prompt that defines the agent's role and goals. You attach a knowledge base with documents the agent can reference. You add tool nodes that the agent can call, such as "check calendar availability" or "create contact".
Once published, the agent can run in Conversation AI chat widgets, voice calls, or as a workflow step. The agent handles the conversation, calls the tools it needs, and completes the task. If it cannot resolve something, you can configure a handoff to a human.
